The founder of Chinese mobile manufacturer Xiaomi, Lin Bin, along with the company’s latest smartphone star in a newly released movie clip.
Here he is seen with what looks like a tablet, which can be folded to a smartphone by a little screen origami.
Unlike existing prototypes from, among others, Samsung and the Chinese manufacturer Royole, Xiaomi chooses to fold the screen in two places, both above and below, which ends up giving a rather elegant impression.
Prototype apparently works during the session, where a video chat switches quite smoothly from the tablet mode to the more compact folded state.
Whatever the particular tablet mobile can do, Xiaomi does not clarify, although in the video clip it is mentioned that this is a prototype.
The phone’s software is Xiaomi’s MIUI interface, which is built up over the Android operating system with the company’s other phones.
Xiaomi’s teaser video puts the germ at what is likely to be a small wave of foldable smartphones, this year’s largest mobile show, the MWC fair, opens the gates late February 2019.
Here Xiaomi and many other leading mobile manufacturers such as Samsung and Huawei are expected to show foldable concepts.
