Apple revealed that iTunes coming to Samsung’s newer smart TV. Something you might not have just expected to see Apple do.
This means that it will be possible to rent and buy content from iTunes directly on your Samsung smart TV. iTunes is going to be like an app on the TV, where Samsung for a time has exclusivity, but may it also move in with other manufacturers in the future.
Apple has recently focused on privacy where, among other things, before CES started this poster hung up:
But what happens when an Apple service comes on a Samsung smart TV? Apple says that while iTunes is coming to Samsung’s platform, the viewers won’t be able to target advertising and the like through the use of iTunes.
AirPlay 2 for several TV producers
So far, only the Samsung is getting the iTunes app, but several other TV producers seem to be taking Apple’s AirPlay 2 to it. This means that via an iPad or an iPhone you will be able to stream and mirror content directly to your smart TV.
Whether these manufacturers will also be able to offer iTunes content is still unknown. However, there are no TV producers who have announced anything officially yet.
A new Apple streaming service?
With AirPlay 2 for multiple smart TVs and iTunes for Samsung smart TV, it suggests an upcoming Apple streaming service and perhaps a focus shift. A shift to focus more on streaming and online services. Time will tell.
CES is in full swing so hopefully more exciting information will pop up around this soon.
